Legend has it a woman asked Benjamin Franklin a question as he exited Independence Hall after the Constitutional Convention in 1787. “Doctor, what have we got? A republic or a monarchy?” Franklin supposedly replied, “A republic, if you can keep it.”
As I’ve expressed before, I keep looking around at what’s happening in this country, both in our government and among our society, and I’m not liking what I see in either place. I see a nation divided, one in which half the population is increasingly bigoted, intolerant of those who either don’t look, act, or think in the same manner as they do. It matches the tone mostly lol. In my Law and Democracy class, we just went over the case from England, R v. Dudley and Shepard (1884) where the two men named in the case at their fellow sailor, Brooks, after being marooned on a life boat for 25 days. It was a murder case, and they were convicted. A month later they were cleared.

🖤 Love and Hugs, dear Sis!

🤣 I call that ‘brain bounce’ and I have a case of it too, though it comes and goes. Some days, I read half a sentence, something triggers another thought, so I go off in search of something, which leads to something else, and then after a while I find myself scratching my head and saying, “How did I get here … and why???” Love and Hugs, dear Sis!!!
